IMA cornering the market on strategic signage locations in Toronto
IMA Outdoor Inc. has been expanding its network of large format billboard sites throughout the core of Toronto since it launched the largest backlit sign in downtown Montreal (16’H x 60’W) a few years back. This is in addition to its 4’W x 6’H (TSA) faces and Domination opportunities in the GO Station Network and Citylites (PATH) system of 20 prestigious office towers in Toronto and Vancouver. IMA has now developed landmark billboard locations including the Don Valley Parkway, 401 Highway, along the Gardiner Expressway, and in the core of downtown Toronto.
“These highly strategic frontlit locations target commuters entering and leaving the city along the major highways in the GTA and in specific downtown locales such as the entertainment district, fashion district and Yorkville village,” notes Brian Rodkin, IMA Outdoor Inc. President and CEO. “These acquisitions are in prime locations. It’s not about volume, it’s about being strategic, about where you want to be seen.”
IMA Outdoor Inc. also has the distinction of having erected the city’s first large-scale “green” roadside sign along Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway near Hanna Street (between Spadina Avenue and the CNE grounds).
Solar-powered with LED lighting, this double-sided Trivision sign measures 20’W x 27’H, is 65’ high and is the closest structure to the Gardiner. It offers a spectacular viewing range for both eastbound and westbound traffic. This represents the first time that solar panels have been used for lighting large-scale signage along the expressway.
Danny Starnino, VP Real Estate, says that IMA strongly believes that the industry needs to apply technology innovation to today’s advertising media to reduce its footprint and support green initiatives even further. “This technology is doing its part to reduce energy consumption and further the cause of green signage. Advertisers can do their part by leveraging this type of technology to deliver their message to tens of thousands of consumers on a daily basis,” says Starnino.
In addition to the latest DVP, Bay and Cumberland, and King and Spadina locations, plans are underway to acquire strategic sites in the coming months. IMA Outdoor is also investigating ways to retrofit existing properties to support green initiatives moving forward. “Anything we can do to reduce hydro consumption and improve the environment, in conjunction with responsible media, is a big plus for everyone,” Rodkin says.
